Resident Director


Position Description

The Residence Director (RD) is expected to provide an atmosphere that enhances the development of individual students while assuming the responsibility for management and administration of a residence hall. As a live-in staff member, the RD directly supervises and trains undergraduate Resident Assistants. The RD is responsible for programming efforts and developmental activities emphasizing the five student outcomes, serves as a resource to the halls, implements judicial procedure, and participates in evening and weekend duty rotation.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise and develop Resident Assistants, including weekly one-on-ones and training.
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of leadership training, retreats, and Student Life programming.
  • Provide peer counseling and knowledgeable referrals to student services/programs and support offices on campus.
  • Create an environment that promotes the health, safety, personal, spiritual and academic development and physical well being of students.
  • Assist and cooperate with other members of the Student Life Team, administrators, faculty, and staff in the fulfilling of the University goals.
  • Supervise the opening and closing of residence halls at the beginning and ending of a term and at college vacations.
  • Ensure that there is adequate Resident Assistant coverage in the residence halls.
  • Maintain up-to-date room rosters, supervises the completion of room inspection forms, reports all custodial or maintenance problems, investigates public area damage, and processes damage bills.
  • Maintain general security of residence halls (curfew, visitors, etc.).
    Facilitate staff training events.
  • Communicate with staff and residents about building and campus programs and events, college policies and procedures, and special announcements.
    Assist with Resident Assistant selection and room draw.
  • Enforce college regulations and coordinates with the judicial council and Student Life Team to deal with student violations by using logical and natural consequences as well as punitive measures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
  • Experience in student development preferred.
  • Excellent conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.

Salary / Compensation

This is a full-time position. Salary is commensurate with education and experience and includes a generous benefits package. Living on campus is a condition of employment and will be provided to the RD.
