QUESTIONS FOR ADDICTION STUDIES

“What jobs can I realistically hope to get?”

Many students find addiction employment while taking coursework at Bethany, but what can you realistically hope for?  The answer to that question depends of course, on your personal gifts, as well as other factors such as language skills, and location, but in most areas there are many counseling positions in the 11-18 dollar per hour range, with specialty, management and administration positions offering substantially more.  Good training and education are your best resources in applying for work or achieving counselor certification with confidence!

“If I’m not a drug addict or alcoholic, can I counsel successfully in this field?”

Some of the most interesting things you will learn in CPAC are ways to take your personal struggles and translate them into effective tools to help addicts no matter what your background. Various ages, cultural backgrounds, and marital status are all represented in the classroom.

“Help!  Do I have to take a college entrance test?  I haven’t been to school in years, and  I didn’t do well in high school.  Is CPAC too hard and will I probably pass?”

There are a number of reasons our students look back and say they had a good classroom experience, but to answer the above questions simply, students who work diligently given whatever limitations they have, tend to have a good academic year.  We adjust the learning experience for each student, and the faculty is there to help you make it.  Yes, you do have to take a college entrance test, and while the results can be important in a four-year degree program, your performance generally will not affect your ability to receive a year of addiction counselor training. “How can I afford it?”

Our financial aid department has all sorts of resources.  If you want to come to Bethany we want to find a way to get you here!  Keep in touch with us.

“Why shouldn’t I go to a cheaper school, and how can I possibly afford CPAC?”

Before you decide to go elsewhere, ask people in the addictions field about Bethany’s reputation for producing graduates that perform well in certification testing, education, and counseling.  Make sure other programs you look at can be completely accepted and transferred into a degree plan.  Make sure your training will actually prepare you for certification or licensure, as well as making you professionally competitive, not just cover minimal course requirements.  We believe students who graduate from Bethany have received the best two-semester education possible at a great “dollar to education” value.  Its worth the drive.

 “What is the class schedule?”

Classes run from 5:00 (Adjustable to 6:00) to around 10:00 p.m. on Friday night and then from 7:30 Saturday morning through Saturday afternoon with schedule variations possible on Saturday afternoon.  The first night of class we will cover orientation material on everything from professional options, to dealing with bad road conditions, to ways you can be sure to have a successful academic year.  Breakfast is mid Saturday morning.  Free over night housing also available
