Joe Childs

R. Joseph Childs, MS, MA, DBA (candidate)

Department Chair and Associate Professor, Joe Childs has been teaching at Bethany since 1994. He has a MS degree in Public Relations from the University of Southern Mississippi, MA in General Ministry from Western Seminary and is a doctoral candidate at Golden Gate University in San Francisco. His research area includes employee wellness and the impact of sleep deprivation on human productivity. He is a Sam Walton Fellow with Students in Free Enterprise and a Cook Fellow with the Acton Institute. Professor Childs has previously held executive positions in the satellite telecommunications industry and other technology-oriented start-ups. He maintains an active marketing communications consulting practice in conjunction with Duarte Design. He has worked on accounts such as Cisco Systems, HP, Sun Microsystems, Apple, and VMware. From 1990-1993 he worked with organizations and governments in Russian, Romania, Hungary and Poland as they transitioned to market economies.

Professor Childs teaches Micro and Macroeconomics, Financial and Managerial Accounting, Strategic Management, Foundations of Contemporary Business and various courses in the APPL program.

Cyril Rayan

Cyril Rayan, MS, MBA

Assistant Professor Cyril Rayan holds a MS in Electrical Engineering from Mississippi State University and an MBA from Santa Clara University. Cyril is also founder and CEO of Mindbrook Inc. a start-up software company in the compliance management space, and Resiligence, Inc. a mass electronic notification service. He has fifteen years experience in the semiconductor/software industry and more than ten years experience in International marketing and sales. He is also co-founder of the Potter's Ministries which is a Christian non-profit organization involved in community transformation. Professor Rayan also started the Christian open development network, which is an open source movement in the Christian community for software projects. He has a passion for learning, is the author of the award-winning book on leadership, Moving from Vision to Reality, and maintains an active blog at http://www.cyrilrayan.com.

Professor Rayan teaches marketing, management, international business and leadership in both the traditional and APPL programs.

Mary Torrez, JD

Assistant Professor Mary Torrez earned a BA in Communication from Biola and a JD from Hastings College of the Law. She practices law part-time, specializing in estate planning and wills. Professor Torrez is the faculty advisor for the award-winning Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team at Bethany University. She also provides advising to the management majors.

Professor Torrez teaches business law, personal financial management, human resource management and principles of management.

Jason Foster, MA

Assistant Professor and Bethany University Head Women's Basketball coach Jason Foster holds a MA in Sports Science Pedagogy from the University of Pacific and BA in Physical Education from Point Loma Nazarene University. Along with extensive secondary education teaching experience, Professor Foster has also coached basketball at William Jessup University, Point Loma, Captial Christian High School.

Professor Foster oversees the new Sports Management major has teaching responsibilities that include Sports in Society, Sports and Recreation Management, Sports Marketing.
