Music Major Curriculum: Suggested Four Year Schedules
To assist students in planning their courses during their time at Bethany, a semester-by-semester course plan is listed for each area of music concentration: Music, Church Music, Music Ministries Leadership, and Music - Emphasis in Teaching. Music Minor Curriculum:
Students may choose a Music Minor or Church Music Minor. Each minor requires 18 units. It is recommended that students take at least one music class per semester while enrolled at Bethany.
Music Major:
The Music program provides a well-rounded liberal arts degree which allows the student to select a personalized specialization. This general music program is recommended for students who plan to pursue graduate studies, music performance or other areas of musical interest. Music 4-year course plan.
Church Music Major:
The Church Music program is designed to prepare the student for church-related ministry in the field of music. Students admitted to the Church Music concentration must demonstrate evidence of leadership ability, communication skills, emotional stability, and positive interpersonal relationships. Ministerial credentials for the Church Music major may be acquired through the Northern California-Nevada District of the Assemblies of God. Music Ministries Leadership Major:
The Music Ministries Leadership (MML) program combines aspects of the Church Leadership program and Music program. Upon successful completion of this program, students will become a licensed minister with the Assemblies of God with specialized training to lead worship, prepare worship teams and do some type of non-music ministry. Those students wanting to be a full-time music minister with choral and instrumental programs should be Church Music majors. Music Ministries Leadership 4-year course plan.
Music Major- Emphasis in Teaching:
The Music - Emphasis in Teaching program (Music Ed.) is designed to prepare the student for teaching music in the public and/or Christian schools. Students admitted to this concentration must demonstrate evidence of leadership ability, communication skills, emotional stability, and positive interpersonal relationships. They will be evaluated by the music faculty at the end of their sophomore year. The evaluation focuses on academic skills, musical performance and inter-personal issues and is used for advisement and direction in career choices. Music - Emphasis in Teaching 4-year course plan.
To acquire a professional clear teaching credential from the State of California, the student must complete the Teaching Credential Program (i.e. fifth year) which consists of a minimum of 36 additional units beyond the B.A. Degree.
