Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI*)
Credential Information
All coursework necessary to apply for an ACSI teaching certificate may be completed at Bethany University. Many Christian schools require their teachers to complete the requirements for an ACSI teaching certificate. These requirements differ somewhat from those required by the State of California.The basic requirements for an ACSI Standard Certificate are the following:
Elementary Teacher Standard Certificate
- B.A. degree from an accredited, ACSI-approved, or ACSI- recognized college or university
-24 semester units in education courses that include 4 elementary methods courses and 1 teaching reading course at the elementary level
-Student teaching, which may be waived if you have taught 2 full- time years, or the equivalent in the same school at K - 8
-6 semester hours, or equivalent, in Biblical studies
-Philosophy of Christian school education, or equivalent
-Completion of all required application documents
Secondary Teacher Standard Certificate
-B.A. degree from an accredited, ACSI-approved, or ACSI- recognized college or university
18 semester units in education courses that include one secondary method course and 1 teaching reading course (for certain subject areas)
-Student teaching, which may be waived if you have taught 2 full- time years, or the equivalent in the same school at K - 8
-6 semester hours, or equivalent, in Biblical studies
-Philosophy of Christian school education, or equivalent
-Completion of all required application documents
