Mission Statement: The English Department of Bethany University supports the broader mission of the College by its commitment to producing excellence in writing, speaking, and literary skills and understanding.
Philosophy: The philosophy of the English Department is that the student is our first concern. The education of the student in speech, writing, and literature is best served by a variety of learning experiences which encourage learning through various media. The English Department program values the larger perspective of commitment to the study of humanities (specifically writing, speech, literature) as an integral part of the formation of Christian leadership. The department is committed also to standards of excellence stated or implied by the Modern Language Association and the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
