SILC (Student Individualized Learning Services)

The mission of the Student Individualized Learning Center (SILC) is to serve and support Bethany students in their academic and professional lives by offering resources for enrichment and development of their skills. SILC aims to support and encourage students in developing their potential for academic, personal , and professional growth in partnership with the faculty and administration. SILC tutoring services are provided to all Bethany students free of charge. Students may self-refer for service, or they may be referred by faculty or staff. SILC is generally staffed during afternoons and evenings, with special services available by arrangement with the Director of Educational Support Services at 831/438-3800 ext. 2129 or e-mail cfitz@fc.bethany.edu.

Support for Special Needs Students

All special needs students who have the appropriate 504/ADA documentation on file with the Director of Educational Support Services, have the opportunity to meet with an Educational Therapist on campus for one-on-one support with academic work through the term. Bethany University has contracted the services of a trained therapist to provide additional academic support and assist special needs students in becoming successful in their coursework. See 504/ADA policies.

Seminars and Workshops

Each term free seminars and workshops are offered on campus. Topics include resume writing and interviewing, safety and self-defense, inter-cultural awareness, and life transitions. Please contact the Director of Educational Support Services, Cynthia FitzGerald, for answers to questions or referrals for services. Locations TBA

  • Present information clearly and consistently
  • Use multi-modal teaching format
  • Provide outlines, study guides
  • Reinforce concepts on blackboard & w/overheads
  • Use e mail for assignments, communications
  • Provide seating options near front of class, away from windows, open doors

  • Verbal descriptions of visual aids
  • Audio taped, Brailed or electronic formatted lecture notes, texts
  • Adaptive equipment (talking calculators, voice output computers)
  • Testing alternatives with reader & scribe

  • Sign language interpreter, FM System, note taker
  • Use of visual aids, open or closed captioned films
