Head Coach Chris Lewis is beginning his first year as the Bruins skipper. At the age of 29, he is one of the nation’s youngest coaches. Lewis will be given the daunting task of leading the club to it’s first ever playoff appearance. “We are here to build this program to the highest level possible. Our mission, every season will be to advance to the post season”.

Lewis comes to Scotts Valley from the northwest, where last summer he was the head coach for the Portland Titans of the Pacific International Collegiate Summer League. The previous spring, Lewis was the head coach at North Valley High School, where he brought the Knights out of the perennial cellar.

From 2002-2005, Lewis was an assistant at NCAA III Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon where he served as the infield coach, strength and conditioning coach, and recruiting coordinator for the baseball program. During his helm as the recruiting coordinator, the coaching staff was credited with bringing in the largest recruiting class is program history.

Lewis isn’t entirely unfamiliar to the Bay Area; in 2004 he served as an assistant for the Salinas Valley Packers of the California Collegiate League. “I am excited to be back in the Bay Area and would like to thank Bethany University for entrusting me with the responsibility of guiding this young program”.

In 2001, Lewis was an assistant coach at Southwestern Oregon Community College and was an instrumental part of the Lakers best finish in school history and the following summer was the head coach of the Bay Area American Legion program, leading the Rams to a 37-14 finish, the best record in the 40 plus year history of the program.

A two sport college athlete, Lewis finished his collegiate career as a Mountaineer at Eastern Oregon University. During the fall, Lewis was a team captain and an All Northwest free safety on the football team. During the spring, he was leading the hardball nine as their team captain, finishing his college career as a lifetime .337 hitter.

As a prep at Sherwood High School, he was a three sport standout. On the gridiron he was an All Conference player at three different positions and All State at two positions. Lewis was named to the Who’s Who in High School Sports list and was also selected for the Oregon East-West All Star Game. On the hardwood he was an All Conference player and during the baseball season he was a two time All Conference player and was named to the All State team as a middle infielder.

“ We will build this program around two words: discipline and moxie. There are no shortcuts to where we are going; every person involved with this program now understands that fact. It is my responsibility to instill in each and every player who passes through this program the characteristics necessary to succeed on and off the playing field”.

“ In the Bruin program we believe that God did not put us on this earth to be ordinary, so from here forward we will work to be extraordinary”.
