ATHERTON, CA – The Oaks baseball team ended their 2007 season on a high note with an 8-5 victory over the Bruins of Bethany University this afternoon at Cartan Field after dropping the opener 5-1.

With the score tying three times throughout the nightcap, Menlo came on strong in the eighth inning by scoring three runs to take the victory. The charge began with junior Matt Medina hitting a single to left field with one out on the board. Sophomore Will McLoughlin drew a walk and pinch-hitter Nick Von Sonn moved both runners over after grounding out to third base. Medina then scored on a passed ball by the catcher. Junior Rob McDonald, who was awarded team MVP after the game, hit a double to the gap in left center field to score McLoughlin. Senior Scott Bowman knocked the ball to the same spot to score McDonald.

In the top of the ninth inning, Bowman then moved from right field to the pitching mound to end his four-year career with the Oaks. Taking the spot behind the plate was four-year teammate Will Lintern. Bowman forced three groundouts to earn the save. Junior Eddie Browne took the victory after pitching to only three batters in the eighth inning.

McLoughlin, who hit the second homerun of his career and was perfect at the plate, went 4 for 4 with four runs and an RBI. McDonald’s double earned him the season lead with 11 this year. He also led the team in homeruns with five.

In the first game, senior Ben Hicks took the loss after pitching five innings and striking out four batters. Bowman and senior Aaron Lilly both had single hit for the Oaks.
