Simpson Splits Doubleheader With Bethany
Redhawks end losing streak.
Men's Baseball - (4/5/2007)
Simpson started off Senior Night with a victory defeating Bethany University 8-7 with two outs in the bottom of the 7th. Shane Battles drove a ball over the right fielders head and off his glove to drive in Levi Storey and Calvin Langford to give Brandon Crowder his first win of the year. Crowder came on in relief in the 5th inning after another strong start by Blake Cull. Once again the Redhawk pitching staff gave the team a chance to win by holding them close until the offense finally came through with the big hit that ended the Simpson losing stretch that had reached 16 games.
Chase Sanders led the offense with 3 hits and 2 RBI and Levi Storey also had 2 hits in the win.
Between games Simpson honored Jonny Cavaner, Tim Marrinello, Mark Denning, Jordan Kunde and Mike Berry who were playing the last home game of their college eligibility.
In game two Brad Hurn locked into a pitchers duel with Bethany starter Austin Horick. Bethany broke through first with a run in the 5th helped by two Redhawk errors in the inning. The Redhawks couldn't get the bats going and Bethany added two runs on a home run in the sixth and an unearned run off reliever Shane Hillier in the 7th for the final 4-0 margin.
