PIONEERS TAKE A DOUBLEHEADER FROM BETHANY UNIVERSITY

Cal State East Bay took a doubleheader from visiting Bethany University 10-7, and 9-5 on April 7. In the first game, pitcher Kyle Dunn improved to 4-2 blanking Bethany on two hits with two strikeouts in three innings. Craig Eagle hurled three innings of scoreless ball with four strikeouts. Marco Cartagena was 3-for-4 at the plate with three runs scored while Jesus Muela and Steven Shinkwin each drove in a pair of runs. In the second game, the Pioneers trailed 3-0, but rallied with two runs in the fourth and six more in the fifth inning to secure the victory. Sean O'Dowd came in relief and picked up his fifth victory of the season allowing two runs on five hits and five strikeouts in 5.2 innings. Lamonte Toney and Marc Tuttle each had two hits and drove in a pair of runs. Muela had two hits and scored a run.
