Dan Mooney began his service with Bethany College in December of 2002 as a volunteer, joining the administrative staff as the asst. to the vice president, men’s and women’s basketball coach. Dan brings with him a wealth of basketball knowledge to pass on to both the men’s and women’s programs. He has had an extensive basketball career, from his college experience at University of New Paltz in New York, to his professional career with various stints on both NBA and CBA teams. Dan rounded out his eighteen-year career playing in Germany with various German teams over a thirteen-year period, in which he was a part of five league championships.

Despite his numerous accomplishments as an athlete, his NCAA honors, All-American Honors and induction into the Hall of Fame at University of New Paltz, Dan’s testimony as a Christian athlete is what sets him apart. Growing up in New York Dan was challenged with both personal and cultural struggles. God gave him the ability to play basketball, but more importantly, the gift to love people, especially youth.

In 1981, Dan followed his passion for God and used his talents in joining the Sports Ambassadors Olympic team, a Christian ministry team. During this time Dan learned that his mission would be to serve as one of God’s anointed children through the ministry of athletics. God has since removed Dan from the basketball court himself, and called him to devote his life to sharing Christ’s power and love through his inspirational, exciting, and encouraging story.

Dan has taken his mission across the country, speaking to thousands of boys and girls, as well as men and women. Today at 46 years of age, Dan’s mission has become clear, as he boldly shares his life, testimony, and more importantly, the love of Christ with over 300 schools throughout the United States and 150 plus churches. “After getting the desire of my heart from God to play Professional Basketball, to be blessed with a family, I could never repay God but I can be his servant here and now. I am a man after the heart of Jesus.”

Dan resides in Scotts Valley and Sacramento, with his wife Valerie, Jennifer, Quentin, B.J., Courtney, and Josh. Daniel Jr. resides in New York and Jillian resides in Stockton Ca.,
