October 7, 2006- After regaining their confidence and boosting their league record to 3-3, the Lady Bruins had a challenging task before them on Saturday night as Dominican University came to the Bruins gym. After taking unbeaten Menlo College to five games the night before, Dominican was ready to get back on track against the Lady Bruins. Dominican came out strong dominating the first set for a 13-30 victory. The Lady Bruins responded by battling Dominican in the next three games showing that they can compete with the CalPac’s best. The Lady Bruins lost the second set 19-30 but refused to go down at home in three games winning the third set 30-27. The Lady Bruins continued their strong play battling with Dominican point for point before falling 24-30 in the fourth set.
The Bruins were able to stabilize Dominican’s aggressive attack with an undaunted and balanced defense that bolstered a season high eight-five digs. The Lady Bruins who are currently ranked in the top three of their conference for digs had double-digit digs from five different players. Emily White led the way for the Bruins with twenty-one digs; Katie Perry was second on the team with nineteen. Brittany Francis had seventeen digs for the Bruins, while Katie Bonesteel contributed fourteen and Andrea Olmstead chipped in with twelve. Francis also had solid contributions offensively leading the Bruins in kills with fourteen while hitting at a .266 clip. Olmstead was second on the team with eleven kills on the night while Kara Hazen and Angela Holme had nine and seven kills respectively. The Lady Bruins (3-4 CalPac, 4-7 overall) next home game is Wednesday against NCAA II CSU Stanislaus.
