Apr. 28 - Reed Duffus returns for his second stint as Head Coach of women’s volleyball at Bethany University. During his initial tenure from 1994-1997, Duffus’ teams compiled a 60-49 overall record and he guided the 1997 Bruins to a second place finish in the California Pacific Conference and a .720 winning percentage.
Duffus enters his 14th year of coaching women’s volleyball and has been a staple within Santa Cruz County and the Bay Area as a collegiate, high school, and club coach. He is the founder of the Santa Cruz Volleyball Club and has coached at the USAV level for six years.
Duffus began his coaching career at Santa Cruz High School in 1992, resurrecting a struggling varsity program and was recognized as the SCCAL Coach of the Year in 1993. Duffus also spent several “rewarding” seasons as head coach at Monte Vista Christian School with his 2004 team completing league play undefeated, and claiming their third Monterey Bay League championship in a row.
Duffus’ philosophy stresses the spiritual, mental and physical aspects necessary to become the total student-athlete. He enjoys teaching the technical and tactical aspects of what he considers, an “ultimate team game.” His players learn to be balanced young adults that are fundamentally sound, as well as being very competitive as Christian student-athletes.
Duffus, 39, earned his bachelor's degree in Recreation and Parks Administration from California State University, Sacramento in 1990. While at CSU Sacramento, he played two seasons with the men's intercollegiate volleyball team. Duffus earned his USA Volleyball CAP Level II coaching certification in 1995, and is a member of the American Volleyball Coaches Association.
Raised in Santa Cruz, he and his wife, Sunshine, have a 19 month old daughter, Mia Noelani. The family resides in Santa Cruz.
