Bruins Fall Against CalPac Powerhouse

Sept. 19- As Menlo College visited the Bruins gym for their first league match-up this season it was made apparent why the undefeated Oaks are a favorite to defend their CalPac conference championship this year. However, the Bruins weren’t going to go down at home without a fight as they took the first set to the limit losing 31-29. After establishing a 23-17 lead in the first set the Lady Bruins were unable to close out the match and gave Menlo a surge of momentum that they never relinquished. The Lady Bruins lost in three games at the hands of the Oaks (29-31, 11-30, 12-30) but saw solid contributions from a number of players. Freshman Brittany Francis led the Bruins offensive attack with five kills and was supported by Katie Bonesteel who had four kills and Katelin McQueen who chipped in with three. Katie Perry who is currently in the top three for assists in the CalPac conference, set up the Bruins offense with nineteen assists. The defense was anchored by Emily White who led the Bruins with sixteen digs. Francis and Perry also put up good numbers defensively along with their impressive offensive stats with Francis having twelve digs and Perry finishing with eight. The Bruins (2-2 CalPac, 3-3 overall) next home league game will be against Dominican University on October 7.
