Scotts Valley CA-Bethany University Women’s Volleyball team hosted the Owls of the Oregon Institute of Technology Tuesday August 28th in the 2007 season opener. The Bruins
(0-1) started a little sluggish early in the first game, before racing back to pull the game close though losing the first game 29-31.
“We played hard after the opening the game on our heels.” said second year Head Coach Reed Duffus whose team not only battled hard in the first game, but for the next two games. The OIT Owls (1-4) outpaced the Bruins 30-24 before sweeping the match with a score of 30-20 in the last game.
Coach Duffus continued, “Their (OIT) middle blockers were tough. We made some game time adjustments, but it just wasn’t enough. We fell away from our game plan late, and it was difficult to get back on track.”
Several players played well. Senior Middle Blocker, Katelyn McQueen and Katie Bonesteel were exciting in their play. Freshman Kim Feigels played like a veteran with her inspiring play.
The Bruins hit the road on August 31st and travel to Portland, Oregon to face Cascade College, Warner Pacific College and Multnomah Bible College in a preseason road trip to the Great Northwest. The Bruins return to Bethany September 14th vs. Holy Names University at 7:00pm in the California Pacific Conference opener.
