Over 2,000 in Attendance at Bethany College's Summer 2004 Camps and Conferences

Posted: Monday, August 2nd 2004

More than 2,000 guests met together for thirteen separate camps and conferences on the Bethany College campus from May 14 to August 7, according to coordinator Russ Rogers. The beautiful setting and facility provisions of the campus have made it a popular venue for a variety of gatherings, and especially in recent years.

Right after Bethany's graduation in May, 50 people attended the Church Planting conference, directed by Northern California and Nevada District Superintendent James Braddy. During the summer, the NorCal/Nevada District held three separate youth camps, totalling 944 teenagers during the summer, under the direction of District Youth Ministries Director Bret Allen, and his assistant Abby Blankenship. The NCN District also held a Kids' Camp in July, directed by District Director of Church Development and Evangelism, George Negrete, with 317 campers.

Bethany also hosted west coast ethnic groups. Among these were 203 Missionettes of the Pacific Latin American District (PLAD), more than 200 from the Japanese Evangelical Missionary Society of Los Angeles (JEMS), and about 75 from the San Francisco Chinese Independent Baptist Church (SFCIBC). Rounding out the camps were five retreats representing churches and youth groups throughout central and northern California, from Assemblies of God and other denominations.

Besides Russ Rogers and assistant Leona Collins, Bethany is able to open its doors for these camps and conferences through the combined efforts of the College maintenance and security departments, President Máx Rossi and the rest of the administration, and the staff of Epicurean, the catering firm that currently manages Café Bethany.

Reservations are already being taken for the 2005 summer schedule. Those interested may call the College Camps and Conferences office: 831/438-3800, ext. 1522.
